Vehicle is a 1979 D-100 2wd bone stock 225 with manual 3 speed trans.I replaced the clutch (all new clutch kit) and had the flywheel resurfaced. I still have a shudder when starting out. It was extremely bad before the new press. plate disc pilot bushing ans throw out bearing. Why is it not smooth,as it should be? What is the cause? THANKS!!

If you replaced everything that was worn out, it'll be something else...in this case, it may be your tranny mount is worn out, maybe your u-joints aren't in good shape (is the e-brake stuck on and it's hard to get it rolling?)... When you say 'shudder', does it chug and shake you when you let out the clutch slowly (engine stalling), are you giving it enough revs to stay rolling while releasing the clutch? Are you letting go of the clutch too quickly at high rpms and the clutch disc is just slapping off the flywheel trying to grab something?

Thanks much. It's not the new U-joints.I do not think it's a trans or motor mount. Seems if I give it more revs.(about 2000 rpm) it does it less.However do I really need to rev. it that high? It weighs around 3600 lbs. Could it be anything with the crankshaft or flywheel?

It's not the e-brake. Only does this from a dead stop in first gear.(Does not do this in reverse). Rear gears are stock 3.54 in an 8 1/4 rear end. The old farmer I got the truck from,occas. pulled wagon loads of hay bales. What about towing or pulling? Any other thoughts? THANKS MUCH!!

My 79 D 100 3-on-the-tree,/6 did that too, its been quite a few years,
seems like it went away after a short while; flywheel roughed up too much to where it may need to be run a bit to break everything in/smooth out the freshly cut flywheel a bit?

makes me think about think that i should keep my d150 auto tranny

My sons GF used to shake the whole Valaint with her histrionics....

Clutch technique is personal....I like to leave at an idle...foot off the gas....

To learn this you may need to set your idle up a scootch to begin with.....800 rpm. Let the pedal off the floor quickly till it just starts to engage....then release it very slowly until the pedal is up and the truck is rolling...at an idle.
The GF used to release the clutch slowly (at 3000rpm) till it started to engage....then dumped the pedal and hit the gas harder. Sometimes it launched (shudder).....sometimes it bucked and bucked...sometimes it stalled. She said she knew what she was doing. It was hard to watch.

The trick here is to learn to drive it so it doesnt shake and it will sort itself out. If the shaking continues you will break springs in the disc....just like the GF did....

The difference is I wont make you bring me cookies and tea while I change the disc.....

A good place to learn to drive a clutch is in the snow. You just "burnout" instead of stall.

Are they new or reman parts ? Shutter usually is from the springs in the clutch disc. Never had a problem with new.Reman yes, I don't think that they replace the weak springs, only the broken ones during the rebuild.
Sometimes it is the luck of the draw,,,,
