Post subject:  Rust in carb/time

Well, I pulled the lid off my Eddy and there was powdered rust in the bottom of my fuel bowls! How? I have a brand new 7.3 diesel filter on there, but I reckon rust still gets past it. My fuel tank is probably on borrowed time, but it's not leaking yet. My engine doesn't need that, so what type of filter should I buy that will keep the rust out? Canister? "10-Micron"? Double filters?

Thanks a million!

Footer: I have my slant timing set at "10 before" on the timing tab...is that acceptable?

BigBlock,

Try a Perma-Cool Fuel Filter and water separator part# 771-81794 at Jeg's or Summit. I used to put one like this on boats all the time. It is a life saver and a good price too! That will keep that nice carb bowl shinny.

Rust in the hardline itself, between the filter and the carb?

Fine enough rust particles can get past filters. I went through this a while back.
You might be able to buy a little time by cleaning out your tank. Replace the sender gasket, filler grommet, and sock while you're at it.
Applying a sealant like THIS should help as well.
