It wont bolt up but I bet it can be cobbled up. There are better trannies to chose from....thats a Peugot 5 speed used behind 4 cyl Jeeps.

Most Jeep and Dakota transmissions also have a first gear near 4:1. If you don't mind shifting half way across an intersection they are still just fair as far as 5 speeds go. The AX-15 (the bigger one) in my 4 cylinder Dakota makes noise and the gearbox it replaced got into the habit of eating the 3-4 shift fork. No 5-speed bolts up directly. If I were to go to the trouble and work to adapt a 5-speed I would most likely use a new T-5.

Dart270 has done the T-5 swap and there was even a group buy for modified bellhousings. Use the search function and you'll find plenty to read.

Yeah I have heard some not good stuff about the puegeot 5 Speed as well.

Probably try to get a First gear ratio between 3.1 and 2.9 - Depending on your rear axle ratio and rear tire size.

I think there's a New Process trans, 535?, that may bolt right up. I saw one at the junk yard and it looked the same as the 833 pattern. I think they came in Dakotas.

The Dak trans will probably not work well if it's out of a 4 cylinder - Check the ratios..

As far as bolting right up.. Well that might be tough. - Shifter positioning might be odd.

This drawing will shed some light on the subject -

But We probably need a measured drawing of the bolt hole locations on the Front of the tranny

Yeah the 535 was used in earlier Dakotas before the AX 5 or AX 15 were.
They did use a few AX5's in 4 cyl models of both Wranglers and Dakotas. The AX 15 was mosthy used in 4.0 I6/3.9 V6 apps, the bellhousing patterns are diffreent between them though. I could be wrong but I thought there were a couple of different AX 15s out there. One was the near-4:1 First and there was a 3.3ish First, too? I will do a search (wish me luck; dialup+ a computer near-idiot, it might take a while.)
