Thought I put a few photos of my Volare which is now a Dodge Aspen Recreation.I really liked the stripe on the Aspen and the R/T decals.I did the car about 3 years ago to commute to work and wasn't happy with the preformance so I began building a new driveline 2 years ago. What a long trip its been but is almost completed. The motor in the car is the original one theat I used to build my linkages and other components with.I removed it this weekend on plans of the new motor being done in a couple of weeks. The new motor is a 74 forged crank block and a earlier drool ture head. It's a nitrous intended motor.105 over bore, custom 11.1 forged pistons, custom ground Schnider cam,T&D roller rockers,Heavy amout of porting and match porting on the head,Balanced and blue printed, all ARP fasteners,Clifford 4 barrel with a Holley carb,KN air cleaner,Nitous Express plate system with 150/200 hp shot,Romac balancer, custom made head gasket, windage try and nitrated crank.727 Trans specilities is now building me a 904 reverse valve body trans and customnitrous convertor.I have a 7 1/4 with 273 for highway cruising and am building a 8 1/4 locker for the strip.I want to put a Quick change in it but it won't be until early summer.I have done all the work on the car myself except building the long block and the trans.I am trying to make it to the Mopars at The Strip in march and hopefully get to run it on the strip.I still have an endless amout of things to do it seem. This sight has been extremly helpful in this.go to www.flickr.com/photos/emptypockets/

Do you race down in Phoenix or is there a new track up in Prescott? I used to race my Slant 6 Dart at Firebird on Friday nights back in the early 90's. I have a couple wall plaques for winning the "trophy dash" with that 19 second car.

Keep the Slant 6 Drag Race flag flying there in Arizona! I think GunPilot races a Duster. He's in either Phoenix or Casa Grande I believe. There was still an active Slant Six Club of America chapter there in Phoenix in 1995. Not sure if it is still active though.

Nice car!

There is a track down in Phoenix.I haven't gone there yet. This motor / trans project has taken me almost 2 years, almost done though.I'm going to try and get down to FireBird raceway before going to Vegas for a few shake down runs.It is only about 1 1/2 hours from my house so it's close enough for the motor man to come with me.I'll keep you posted.

There is/was another drag strip more on your side of Phoenix. I'm pretty sure it was called Speedworld, but I may be mistaken. I raced at Firebird because I either lived in Tucson (until '95) or would be staying at the Army National Guard Headquarters on that side of town once I moved up to Flagstaff ('95-'00).

Keep us posted on your progress. You definitely need to try and get as much "seat time" as you can to work out any bugs and get familiar with it before you go all the way to Vegas.

If it comes to making a decision to spend the weekend doing something like swapping the 7 1/4 for the 8 1/4 instead of getting to a drag race to practice, choose the drag racing! The 8 1/4 is definitely better, but "seat time" is the better choice. If you're driving the car to Vegas you'll be much happier with the highway gears anyway

We made the mistake of constantly tweaking something on the GodsRods Duster all the time instead of just making it reliable and getting some seat time. The result was that we spent the whole weekend tinkering on the car instead of winning races.
