Uhmmm. ok...

Get a tach that can be used with a 6 cylinder, mine has a dial at the back to set it to work with 4, 6, or 8 cylinders.

Wire it up as the instructions say...
Generally, the red wire is switched+12v, black is ground, green goes to the coil negative, and the white is for the light.

What else do you want to know?

Yeah, it works just fine on a slant

Or you can go high tech and just use an MSD shift light.

I have a Sun tachometer on my slant six. I am not very happy with it because it's vary slow respond to the engine revving and it just doesn't seem accurate. I'll spend the money for an Auto Meter tachometer on my other Valiant.

Midi,

I use a Sunpro super tach II..works great. Just three wires as other member told you. I run mine with a Pertronix ignition, but have run it with HEI also. Very sensitive to rpm. I matched it against an excellent hand tach you press against the crank pulley.

Easy job to put in a tach and its internal lite. Just read the directions.
