Post subject: | Degree Time |
I've started assembling my new mill and I'm wanting to degree the cam. It's a fairly stock build (.100 off block, mildly ported head, stock cam)but this seems to be a good procedure. Can someone give me a quick link for a start to finish operation. I was kind of surprised not to find one in the tech section and a basic search on the board turns up a million pages. I'm also wondering where to get the appropriate bushing once I've determined how much I want to advance? Is 4* fairly average for this type of stock build? By the way I'm planning on doing this with the head off. Thanks, Pat. |

You can get a bushing set over the counter at most auto parts stores (there are even Mr. Gasket sets...)... Comp Cams used to have a fairly OK set of instructions in their catalog/website with some pics...the one thing to remember is to get the piston in the right place before putting the chain on (i.e. if initially 'lining up the dots' make sure the piston is coming 'up' the bore, as you can get it going down and be wayyyy off...) -D.Idiot |

I figured I would use a dial indicator to find true TDC then go from there. I just have clips of info on how it's done but have never actually done it so I'd like to read something on the whole procedure. Good to know I can get bushings over the counter though. |

Bushings for a small block Chevy are a correct fit and easy to find. |

Thanks guys,I'm off to the shop. Sandy, I made a cool lexan disc for ccing my heads as per your earlier post. I made it big enough to do our 440 heads as well, should be fun. |
