 Post subject: ignition on N/A motor?

Hey guys. I think this should be a pretty straightforward answer but I'm tired and am probably making it more complicated then it actually is. This isn't for my slant project that will be a turbo'd motor and I already know what that will have for an ignition. this is for my megasquirt efi'd 360 small block in my 84 ramcharger.

I'm going to be running an LA block with Magnum heads and "kegger" intake with MPFI(I think thats what it's called) so I'll be running 8 injectors. I'm just wondering it running an MSD 6AL will be enough for the ignition system? I know it wouldn't work on the turbo'd motor because of the changes but on a N/A motor it should be fine right?

I would think the MSD would be plenty for your NA motor. I have one on a turbo motor, and have never questioned it's approprietness. What is your concern here? I am not questioning your correctness, just the nature of it. Are you concerned the pressure of the turbo will blow out the flame. Should I be aware of this on mine as well? Anybody else out there afraid to run a MSD 6 on a turbo motor? What are the alternatives?

I was told that the change in timing that is required as boost goes up is not as controllable with the MSD system. Really my only concern here is that I'm tired and all this thinking has me overthinking even the simplest little thing. On my slant turbo I'll be running a Ford Windstar ignition setup because it's electronic and the timing can be controlled by the megasquirt.

You may want to think about using DIS instead of paying high prices for MSD.

DIS have NO problem iwth this high power stuff you are doing. Megasquirt Extra and MSII Extra supports DIS.

Just that need to mount a xx-1 tooth wheel, eg: 12-1, 18-1, 24-1, 36-1.

You've got a Megasquirt... you can set the timing to whatever you want using the MSD box if you have the MS controlling the ignition.

yeah thats what I figured. I got confused and didn't want to end up thinking it was something different.
