Slowly this project is shaping up but please correct or rediect me if I'm headed the wrong way. :oops:
My plans are (or maybe now WERE) to use the 2.2 Flat Top with Trench Valve Relief type pistons.
Got my block back after having minimal casting shift verified with the cylinder walls heavier towards the Passenger side. Very good front to rear centering also. I'm going for a 3.485 final bore.
I ordered 6 of the Sealed Power W527P-1.00m for my Slant and about fell on the floor when these pieces of total Crap, Briggs and Stratton Reject, Mexican made cast pistons arrived today. :cry:
Out of the 6, brand new in the boxes, pistons only 3 had even a semi identical (visually) Valve trench CAST into them. The other 3 aren't even close. Smaller.
The flat of the head is machined NOT the Valve reliefs.
The compression distance of each are also NOT even close to the next slug. = 1.566, 1.567, 1.577, 1,579, 1.580, 1.582......
Only close consistancy is the OD of all 6 at 3.447 to 3.450
Most expensive set of soon to be ashtrays I have ever seen.
Are these even a recomended style to use or are the deep dished Turbo pistons the only way to go. :?

Sealed Power is a Federal-Mogul brand. H'mmm. Seems to me I might've commented unfavourably on Federal-Mogul's cheapening and outsourcing everything they make:

Return the S.P. units for a refund and go order the Keith Black (United Machine) pistons. These are also cast pistons but there quality is pretty good for "production" units.

That's not even close to being good. They should be within tenths, not thousanths, much less .003. Don't have numbers in front of me, but I'll bet the piston to wall clearence spec is less then .0015. If it were me I would send them back for a refund.

No comments as to the style of the higher comp. 2.2 stock pistons VS using the Turbo application slugs?
Method to my madness is that with resulting slower piston speed in the longer rod 6500 rpm engine, any shortcomings or inert weakness in using a cast piston could be less or avoided due to this bit of Physics.
I have some Kieth Black PN's some where and I will check the pricing in the morning. I hope they have THIS particular piston.
I got a call late this afternoon from my supplier and he didn't understand my concerns about the massively different size (CC's) valve clearence trench until I went over there and showed him. :shock:
I will keep all informed as this plays out.
Going with the .040" over 2.2 Flat Top, with valve relief trench piston, resulting in a 3.485" bore, is still agreeable?
Another item I discovered is that I have the Factory PN# for this stock 2.2 piston in std. Have to research the dealer to see if Mother Chrysler offered a .030 or .040 over, over the counter Factory Piston . I would feel more at ease with those. :roll:

'88 Turismo Platform has been picked up for me in Canton Ohio. Got my A-100 packed away in storage waiting for the Plymouth to get up here.. :wink:
Car already has the Mopar Performance FWD to RWD K-Member in it AND the trans mount that previously cradled a 904.

Hey buddy,
I hadn't read all posts regarding Sealed Power issues and haven't had the chance to read ALL the posts regarding the 198 rod 225's.
You know I appreciate all the info you share. :wink:
BTW: I use Autolite plugs exclusively in all my racing engines since the late 70's.
John Ansted of Jomar Racing and Jomar Equipment ,showed me a minor difference way back then that the grounding electrode was thicker on the Autolites VS Champee-on, AC, Motorcraft, etc.
This fights the hi RPM detonation, due to a thinner electrode GLOWING, to a minimum.
I use Bosch Platinum Plus 4 's in all my street vehicles. :D

Well another shot to the foot..... :cry:
Nationwide search came up with only ONE set (4) of the KB pistons (KB239-040) anywhere. None of the other PN#.
AARRRGGGG !!! :shock:
Of course offers of MAKING ME A SET OF 6 NEW ONES abounded, at $120 each.
Way out of my budget.......... :(
Time marches on.
Heads-up: My 1967 Dodge A-100 5 window (2bbl Super/6) PU is going up for sale. Ran a 19.76 at Norwalk this past fall. Not bad for a flying Garage Door....
Got to finance this project somehow.
I'll still keep you guys posted. :wink:

You say "going for" your target bore size.... has it already been bored? Look in the Parts for sale from about 2 weeks ago as I posted info on a guy on Ebay that had 4 sets (4 ea) of NOS 2.2 turbo pistons that were in his Ebay store. P/N was there too. Only thing, his pistons were in "Standard" size

All 4 eaxctly the same. Valve trench the same.
Pays to get the best.
Now I need to find just 2 more for this project.
2 distributors here in Southeast Michigan say I got the last 4 in the country. I REALLY HOPE NOT :(
