Post subject:  carpet replacement on a 73 dart 4 door
hi guys happy friday! the weekend means 2 entire days to work on our slants!

ok .. so i am going to replace the carpet in my 73 dart 4 door. i was wondering if there is a template or layout i can check.

i am basically going to remove the seats, tying to keep the old carpet intact. then lay it over the new carpet and use some chalk to trace it out.
i am using an automotive / marine carpet i have used in the past.
and prolly come serrous adheasive to keep it in place

if there is a better way i would love to know it.

1. Cut a little large, it's easier to trim excess off than not have enough....

2. Use a lighter on the edges to melt it a little so it doesn't unravel

3. Fold edges (exposed that are seen) back on themselves about a 1/2", use contact cement and clamp between some wood.

4. Put foam under carpet and glue to floor

5. When glueing foam down, or carpet to foam, do a little at a time, and stack some weight on top. (grocery bags of newspapers work)

MiDi,use good contact cement like 3m,weldwood,dap,if it's got a big ole warning about extremely flammible thats the right stuff.I'm not kidding NO flames,sparks,smoking anything!!Keep the doors open for plenty of fresh air.Glue the pad down first that will give you an idea where you'll need to do any nip an tuck on the rug.Since you're useing a "flat"carpet it'll need "some" glue but I'd only use it where needed,like bottom edge of tunnel,front edge under pedals etc.Start in the middle and work out from there(left right front back).If you melt the edges be careful there to as some rugs will fire up real easy,also don't do that till the cement has aired out for a while.I've glued a yard or two in vans,boats and a few cars over the years and I'm telling you that contact cement will frick up your brain real quick,fresh air fresh air,is your mantra.Oh,also use a rubber hammer or a plastic dead blow hammer and beat it into submission where the rug isn't laying down like you want it.It's work but fun when done,good luck 8)

Great pics Ed. So why did you use flat carpet? Cheaper? Also where did you get your seat covers? Those are the same style I'd like to get (different color tho).

Great pics Ed. So why did you use flat carpet? Cheaper? Also where did you get your seat covers? Those are the same style I'd like to get (different color tho).
I used the flat carpet because no kit came with the correct color of red.. (what they call red is closer to maroon (a bit of blue in it).... I also notice this at autoparts stores with mats, etc) I needed a red that matched the interior (firethorne red is what it's called)
