Finally got an Offy intake. I pulled the adapter to quarter turn it. That won't work! I got 2 screws to line up.

I may try building an adapter of out really thick plastic. I am also thinking of making it to bolt on a Thermoquad or square bore. Kind of like the Holley Street Dominator intakes. They take both without an adapter.

Is it worth the trouble to spin the carb?

Theoretically from what i read, turning the carb sideways may give better fuel distribution but it also can lead to fuel starvation on hard cornering. Whether the pros outweigh the cons, I don't know.

I guess you have to decide how much time you spend hard cornering.

I had fuel starvation with my AFB on hard left turns (primaries facing driver side). I found that the problem was due to the float being set too low. I now have a Quadrajet mounted sideways and have not noticed any fuel starvation problems on hard turns.

Incidentally, I have aluminum 90° adapters for C$65 if you're interested. I used an Edelbrock PN 2696 on top of my adapter to mount the QJ.

I couldn't tell you right now because I haven't driven my car very much since I put it on. I discovered that my right front wheel cylinder was leaking after putting on the QJ and I figured then was a good as time as any to switch over to disc brakes. I haven't found the time to finish it so it's still up on blocks.

However, I can tell you that my highway gas mileage (~1.5 mpg) improved after switching from the Carter BBS to the AFB (even if was a 625 CFM carb). The QJ hadn't been opened since 1977 when it went on a 350 Chevy. Properly jetted, I would expect the Quadrajet to be more fuel efficient than the AFB.

Frank gave me fine advice a few years ago and gave me a lot of time too..then I forgot about his adapter til I needed one. Because I had a rod linkage and couldn't figure out how to rube goldberg a rod to what needed a cable pull, I made my own adapter for mounting that set the Holley and Eddy with linage on manifold side. I wanted a thick adapter to add even more height to my 2 inch riser so ordered an 8 inch square inch thick aluminum plate from McMaster Carr. The plate and shipping were more than $65! THen I still had to use a friend's commercial machine shop one saturday to drill the throttle holes through the plate. Works beautifully but if Ihad remembered Frank's, I would have been money and time ahead....assuming Frank can make an adapter for the "conventional" mount.

Menko, I may try the photo account to put some pics of this up,it works so well...it ought to for what I have in it!

I have a friend who salvages jet airliners. He has some really thick plastic I can get and cut and work on the drill press and band saw.
