1st post? Been here readin and learnin,am presently workin on an 84 d-150 super six. Engine has the Comp Cam 264s-10 K kit, stock head woulda/shoulda been in yesterday save that the oil pan from the donor car won't fit the truck will hopefully have this sorted out this pm. Have picked up the bluestreak module and MSD11 coil , but now learn that the dizzy wont work with this, so which dizzy is best to replace it with? Will be needing a smog pump if someone here is willing to donate or make an offer of one for sale. As an aside the tranny is a manual with O/D; intent is to have a truck with low end torque and good milage,,,thoughts for future addums are Elect radiator fan and perhaps elect drive water pump. Which begs the ? Is there a way to use an electric drive for air cond? I can't see why not but never seen this addressed anywhere,plausable? robert |

Robert, After several years' work I have my truck on the road. It is worth every minute it took and what I learned here is incalculable. Search the archives. But, did you start out with a short block and no pan? I don't know about trucks as new as yours, but the 60's Swetplines need the pan with the sump in front. I can send you pics if you PM me your regular email, and I have several pans hot tanked, blasted and painted if you want one. Yu MUST have the correct oil pickup too, do youhave one? rock '64d100 |

Welcome to the forum... Electric motor driven AC is plausible but it would take a lot of work and it would most likely be less efficient then the pump driven set-ups available. As we know, many appliances have electric motor driven refrigeration systems... the trouble is that these take a good amount of power to drive. You would have to substancally increase the vehicle's charging system to drive the electric compressor motor... so it is better to simply drive it directly off the engine. DD |

Thanks Roc and Doc I've got the pan and now the tube! Had picked up an super six outa a 77? volare' just didnt pick up on the various pans till too late. Distributor? would really like to dump the spark system for the hei uprade and have the bits, just found out the dizzy isn't appropriate to this upgrade ( spark advance ) controlled by the lean spark? This is a Major and immediate concern, as is the air pump, which is needed before I can put in the 2 1/4 pipes. Let me add here that I am not , and don't claim to be a mechanic, if I study hard, i might learn my way around this one engine. robert |

Go back to the junk yard and grab the distributor out of the Volare. Those are good ones to use on a truck. |

I did the HEI conversion on my 86. The first thing you need is the service manual, for the wiring diagrams. That will tell you if there are any ballast resistors, mine had none outside of the computer I don't know if there was one built into the computer or not. My computer was mounted behind the battery hanging from the fender. All the wires to hookup the HEI were going right to the computer. So I pulled guts out of the computer and mounted a 1/4" by 8 3/4" by 4" piece of aluminum for a heatsink inside the computer housing. I used a 6 pin GM weatherpack that I got from junk yard for $2 to make all the connections. Do not attempt to buy this weatherpack new from NAPA just the blank housings are $15 apiece!!!! By the time the guy had figured all the pins and seal I would have had $45 in just one six pin connector. I found mine on a K5 blazer for $2. I was able to reuse most of the seals and bought new pins as needed. I think I ended up with $10 or less invested in the connector. I also used the Blaster 2 coil as in the article. Origally when doing the conversion I had tryed useing a dizzy out of 73 dodge truck. It had to much mechanical advance, 30 degres total. Grab one from a 78 Volare and it made huge difference. Could have recurved 73 dizzy but not real easy to do because of spring availability. Good luck and with careful planning you might be able to use the stock wiring and housing as I did and no one will ever know you did the conversion. Hope this helps Dave |
