Post subject:  Question for Bob D.

I was going through a car calender from lasr year and found a picture of a 58 Mercedes with a 3-liter Slant 6. What I'm really trying to get to is that it has direct cylinder fuel injection. I was wondering if the Mercedes intake manifold design (though wrong for our slants) would air flow better than our intakes? If so, then do you think that fabricating an intake based on the Mercedes's design would net better power and accelleration? Sorry I don't have a scanner to show you what I'm looking at. If you can find one of last years calenders from Kragens its in there for the month of October. Well thats all for now. Thanks for your time.

those came is a few flavors I think.
The minimal engine for 1958-1960(?) was about a 134 CI and the big one about a 184 CI.
Base models had 1 or 2 solex carbs on them, and the fuel injected models used a Bosch Mechanical Direct Injection setup..

Don't know much else about them, but that might help you further down the research path...

I'm by no means an expert on intake manifold design. However, I would have to say that any manifold designed for FI would be more efficient in a FI application than a manifold designed for a carburetor. I don't know whether the manifold you are referring to was designed for a carburetor, and then modified for FI, or was originally designed for FI. Sorry that I can't be much help here.
