Do'es anyone run or have a slant rail? i like old stuff so i'm thinking I might build a front engine rail. I hate working on the dist. and oil pump in a car with a slant. |

Hot Rod magazine this month- Marlan Davis has a SL 6 rail from the 60's picture posted- just what you want. You could also cut the fenderwell away from the passenger side of a doorslammer car. |

Howdy Elam, Here's something that might tickle your fancy and doesn't cost an arm & a leg. They're a sub-section of Jalopy Journal/H.A.M.B. and are getting to be rather popular in your neck of the woods. HA/GR class Rules Forum We're still batting our heads against N(o) H(ot) R(ods) A(llowed) out here in SoKal but hope yet lives. We're also taking our car (Barn Job #18 in the photos link in my sig) on a road tour in August to get in some strip time here and there this year. |

Mark Dingbaum in Iowa has a FE dragster with a Slant/727 in it. I have not heard from him for a while. Last time I talked to him the car had run low 12's with a mild Slant. Sounds like a really cool project Mike. |

Being cheap I really like the idea of using a full wide rear end and I have a late 30's frame out behind the shed now just waiting but the rules say the engine needs to be 62 or older. I probable would only run with you guys any way so that would'nt matter. I only had dialup untill a couple weeks ago so I was off here a long time but I need to find out how to post pictures now. I don't know where to host my pic. |

The HAMB guys don't mind if you use a later slant block since it's not a performance advantage. My favorite photo hosting site is Photobucket .com. All the other photo hosting sites I've seen people use were slower, sacrificed quality or lacked organization. |

Yep, The later slant blocks aren't a problem as they're the same starting point bore & stroke wise. Stick with a drool tube head and nobody'll complain (probably wouldn't anyway). Same thing with the trans and rear. Let's face it, they're just gears. The spirit of the thing in the late forties and early fifties is the point. Low bucks drag racers then were working with simple carbs, mechanical ignitions, manual gearboxes, whatever happened to be at hand. Typically this was average passenger car equipment. I use Flickr and they have a low volume free service in addition to their paid ones. They're a bit disorganised but not unlearnable. There're probably better ones available, but it's OK for what I do. How'd the five window project go? Certainly would like to see some picks of that as well. |
