Hi everyone, I'm trying to "centralise" the different experience-related advices about how to relieve a slant of it's few design flaws and make it thus a bulletproof engine. For now I have the classic : grind off casting flaws and smooth out the oil flow in the oil pump pocket. I read about cam lobes lubrication but where to put a sprayer? And where to connect it? Apart from that, can you think of something else? Of course, I'm talking of trying to reduce design flaws, not using performance or expensive HD parts. Thanks for your help, Marc |

There is also a lot of information in the TWIGGY thread. It's a matter of perspective, I suppose, but many of the areas addressed aren't really design flaws. I look at them simply as areas that can be improved. |

Yeah, I've been trying to think about the same thing you are asking. The only problem, it's kind of a difficult question. The extremely high performance engines ask more than a street engine. As far as I know the short block is extremely tough and shouldn't need much of anything for street use which I consider anything 15 and above. How do we bulletproof the short block? I've started and got some research including my topic on Rod Polishing. I don't know what other prep the rods take other than balancing and ARP. What about paying for a dynamic balance of the crank? Is it worth the money? In the v8 world we didn't bother, most of the stroker kits were already to go and than we put on an external balance. What goes for ratings of pistons? The thermal coating Doug's been doing is awesome and was going to soon ask, which apparently it already works great. So what other Hot Rod tips is there for the shortblock prep? |
