of using a late model Jeep Liberty rear end for an A or F Body? I noticed that our Liberty has rear discs and if it would fit the A or F Body, that could be an easy way to upgrade both rear ends and brakes at the same time. Might have to get under there and do some measuring (when it warms up a bit (got up to near 32 today). |

I measured the one under my '05 Liberty. As I recall it was about 58" wide which is too wide for an A-body. Also, the Liberty has a coil spring suspension so the sprng perches would be all wrong. You could weld new perches on but if you have to narrow it anyway you might as well get a B-body or C-body 8 3/4 and narrow it. |

If you have an 8 1/4" rear, one guy on here is experimenting with using the disc brake (which has a drum/style ebrake) setup from a '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and using the ebrake cable from a Ford Exploder. I can't remember off the top of my head who it was, but so far he said everything fit together with very little modification. |

58" wide is about perfect for using deep offset Mustang rims. Look here for disc retrofits on Chrysler axles: tsmmfg.com. These are on my 64 Dart. Lou |

I had almost forgotten this topic. I went out a few minutes ago to measure the rear end under my '05 Liberty. It is, as I remembered, 58" between the backing plates. I had thought this to be too wide but with the right offset it could be made to work. My concern with that is the front end; I don't want to carry 2 spares. |

David, How wide is the Liberty rear end from one wheel mounting face to the other? I need a 58-58.5" wide rear end and soon. Joshua |

The 58" is front backing plate mount to the same on the other side. I don't have the wheels off so it will be tough to measure until I do but I would guess that you could add about 5" and you'd be close. |

I just took another look at the above addy and noticed something interesting. They list their rear kit for 7.25, 8.25 and 9.25 rear axles. Aside from the Jeep option in an earlier post, the Dakota R/T through 2003 used a 9.25 rear axle with rear disk brakes. If I'm reading things right, these should bolt on to 8.25 and late 7.25 axles as well. What am I missing?Look here for disc retrofits on Chrysler axles: tsmmfg.com. These are on my 64 Dart. My 07 Liberty is a 5 lug pattern. Until I can actually measure the bolt pattern, it looks like it might be a 5 on 4.5 LBP. If it is and the rear disc's could be readily adapted to another 8.25 or 8.75, it would be a great upgrade at a reasonable cost with replacement parts as close as your Jeep dealer.

The Liberty is 5 bolt and I'm pretty sure it's 5 on 4.5. My concern was with using deep offset wheels. They would work on the rear but I'm afraid they would rub on the frame rails. The other downside to using the Liberty rear is that you would have to remove the stock mounting brackets and wel on new leaf spring perches. I think there are other options that are less trouble. What I would be interesti n if it will fit the 7.25/8.25/9.25 axles is the rear disk setup. |
