The glovebox and trunk are typically different. My reply was to get the doors and igntion the same. Perhaps I read the original post incorrectly. Wouldn't be the first time.

Something else (hey the list gets bigger and bigger every time I look at pics of my car) I'd like to do when I return home is completely re-key my car. Do any of you know if there are complete kits available so that I can use one key for the whole car (doors, ignition, trunk, and maybe a locking gas cap?)? I haven't found anything myself, but figured it was worth asking. All my cylinders are sloppy as sin and my keys are worn dang near flat. |

I don't think it is possible to rekey, for single key operation. New locks are available with new keys for every position on your car. Don't kmow about the gas cap. |

A locksmith should be able to retumble the lock for a single key. Also, Andy Bernbaum afters matched sets if I'm not mistaken but I don't know if they have anything that recent. |

It is not a case of just repinning the tumblers. The grooves on the keys are different, and the key will not fit the tumbler. |

Both my '85 and my 89 Diplonats (both police pkg) took the same key in the trunk and glovebox as the doors and ignition. You can get the doors repinned and (I believe) the trunk lock as well, but NOT the ignition; it would be best, if youre gonna replace that, to buy the new one and have the doors repinned to match the new ign. |

Maybe the police cars are different. On my 88 Diplomat The key blanks are different between the door/ign, and the glovebox/trunk. The wrong key will not go into the lock more then about 1/4 inch. The same is true on my 66 Cuda. |

Yeah Charlie, I believe that it is a police package thing. My dads 82 Gr Fury, Moms 84 5th Ave, my old 83 5th, were all like you describe. |

I get kinda silly about this and rekey all my classic Mopars so the same key fits all the cars. (doors and ignitions) I don't have to think much about what keys work with which car. I would love to find a way to get the trunk locks to use the same key as the doors / ignitions but as already noted, these use a different key design with no grooves on one side of the key. The good news, teeneager will ask for the keys to such & such car... I tell him he already has it... same key as the car you were just driving. The bad news... I get really up-set when teenager says "I can't find my keys, has anyone seen them? DD |

As was already noted, the door/trunk/ignition key differences are real. There was a police/taxi/fleet cylinder option available, and if you're really lucky, you might be able to find one in a yard somewhere. (I haven't bothered to check to see if they might be available OEM.) I have no idea if a good locksmith shop could fix you up or not. You may have to resort to snagging a few extra door cylinders and try to get them to mount for use in the trunk lid. Roger |

There is no way to use door lock cylinders as trunk locks, and the last OEM "single key" lock cylinders that might've been adaptible to our older cars (the cop/taxi M-body items) are NLA. It's likely you will not be able to have the same key open your trunk, your doors, and work your ignition. Ignition + doors, and trunk + glovebox, yes. Fuel cap keys are also totally different. I never use the fuel cap key on my key ring, it's just there as a spare. I keep the fuel cap key I actually use in the car's ash tray. Having one key for ignition + doors and one key for the trunk never much bothered me. |

Maybe install a trunk solinod. I have been thinking about doing this. I all ready have power locks and the Viper alarm system. Just add the trunk to it. Ofcourse if you haven't gone this far then it really is the long way around. |

I got a OEM trunk lock with solenoid from a board member here, worked like a charm.On the other hand, I got a used set of police B or C body pak car and they fitted my car... although I don't know if early A's would use the same keys. I just had to drop the ignition combination drum (cylinder?) (it was for locking column) and use those tabs on another one. You just pull the aluminum/ stainless steel tab on top of the lock assembly and insert them in proper order in the other lock assembly. You get one key to open all car (NOT the gas cap). OR you can buy a really good repro ignition/door locks combination for about 40 dollars on ebay and a trunk/glovebox combo for about 30. |
