Post subject:  Buy a whole load of rubber caps!

Depending on emissions regs in your area, you may have to keep them, if you have none... then at your convenience you might want to keep:
1) the vacc. line from the carb to the distributor (if plugged into a little box on the side of the air cleaner or firewall, disconnect and run one straight line from carb to distributor...

2) you will need to keep the charcoal cannister and those lines (purge, gas venting, carb overflow line...

3) cap off line going to vacc. 'hockey puck' bolted to the head, and any vacc. lines going from ther to the EGR/Radiator... cap off the lead from the carb...

That should clean things up a bit...

Post subject:  junk and clutter

My thoughts on this won't count as I havent persued them yet.
However my intent is to direct the lines to the firewall and re-direct to where they need to be, perhaps even using some copper @ firewall. This is more than just for neatness sake as solid lifters will require me to enter the valve cover sorta regularly. It does look as if this was afterthought doesn't it? Does anyone have good pics of a cleaned up engine compartment?
