Post subject:  HELP manual to power brake conversion problem

I am converting a 67 Coronet wagon from manual drums to power disks. Sounds simple enough, its not. The drums to disks was the easy part. Power to manual however seems to be a bit harder. My problem is with the linkage connecting the brake pedal to the booster.

This piece here:

This piece is off a 74 Road Runner. I originally intended to use the booster and everything off the RR but the booster was to big and hit the inner fender. I bought the correct 67 booster and the end is to fat to fit in the linkage. The hole in th 67 booster end also is about twice the size as the hole in the 74 booster.

How the linkage fits the 74 booster:

How much it lacks on the 67 booster:

The boosters side by side:

My question is what (other then a 67 Coronet of course) can I get the linkage off of? Or did I get the wrong booster? Anybody done this swap? Anybody got the piece I need?

This is going to be the wifes daily driver and I need to get it on the road to shut her up. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I believe you need the linkage from the basic year group of the 67 booster (66 through about 69 or 70

Hi Tophat..

i changed my manual brakes to power braqkes 2...didn't change to disks yet but i have completed the hard part...

I took a booster from a dodge b250 van from 1984...i cut off the spindles from both manual and powerbooster..

I cut off the end of the spindle (app 1'' or 2'')....then placed the power booster in its location and i measured the space between the cut off spindle and brakepad...watch out, be sure that the spindle can be pushed all the way inside the booster..or else the brakes won't work.

After that, i cut of the original spindle to its exact length, grind the axle to a point (one side only) and welded it back together...because the spindle doesn't have any sideways pressure the weld is save from braking...if you weld the right way off course :)....

If the booster doesn't fit, maybe you can try a booster from a volvo...i had one on my 1971 dodge truck, 4×4 with drum brakes..and it worked pretty well...only problem i don't know which year the booster was from...maybe between 80 and 90's....

Good luck m8....

Can it be ground thinner? Or is there an endurance issue if ground?
