Post subject:  Identify crank

What 225 engines came with forged crank? Is there a way to identify using serial number on the block or what? This is a 74´ dodge dart 4d.

Thanks
Rob

A 1974 SL6 would be a forged steel crank engine,
The large "casted-in" number on the driver's side of the engine block should be 2806830-xx (the xx can be any number from 1 to 24?)

Almost right, but not quite. Midyear '76 was the changeover.

Pulled crank tap on them (on the counterweight) lightly with brass hammer:

bell-like ring: forged
CLUNK!: cast.

The pad on the passenger side of the engine above spark plug #1 where the head meets the block will have a set of numbers if '225E' then is cast...

It's kind of weird but of all the '76 A and F bodies of that year I've seen or torn down those with their numbers matching engine all the F-bodies got cast crank engines (except a couple of coupes I came upon with early date codes on the tag)... all the A-bodies seem to have forged crank units (would love to see a 1976 4 door valiant with a cast crank engine as OEM to verify who got 'what')...
