Maybe this should go in buy/sell, but I'm not buying for sure, and I'm not selling, so here it it. Found a local craigslist ad selling a 1969 Valiant w/ a 225 that has a shot block. The kid is "selling outright or parting out." Now, I have a 225 in my Duster, so hey, I could use the 225 parts for that, and keep the Valiant shell for a rainy day. A rainy day when 318's fall from the sky. Okay, so the guy does have the title, says there is some rust, the 904 transmission was rebuilt 1000 miles ago, newer Holley carb, sounds like an okay bargain. Now, is it a bad idea for $200? $200 is about the "won't get hurt on it" realm, even if I had to part it out. I haven't looked at it, so that makes it hard to judge, but preliminarily, what do you folks think? |

Sounds like a sweet deal to me. The transmission alone is worth that if it's really been rebuilt that recently. |

2 Years ago, I gave my friend $200 for his wrecked but driveable 71 Dart with a Slant/904. I parted it out and made my money back and still have parts left over to sell or use myself. So yeah, it you've got a place to put the car get it and do with it what you please. |

A few questions: Is the title "clear" w/ no leans or back fees? Do you have a way to move the car, cheap? Do you have a place to store the car? Do you have nice XXX (XXX = neighbours, wife, girlfriend etc.) What is your time worth? (I takes me 12 to 16 hrs. to 'part-out' an A-Body, depending how far down I take it) DD |

My folks have a farm where I store project cars. My wife is used to my antics. I'm not too concerned with time in this case. I doubt I will part it out, unless the body is horrendous. Seems like the general consensus is to move on it. Hopefully I get to look at it this weekend, if not today. |

Based on that, the car sounds like a good deal. You may want to get someone to run the license number to check for problems. Here in CA, out of date tags for many years can mean "sticker shock" if you ever try to re-register the vehicle. Sounds like it's time to go look at the car. DD |

Well, damn. For a bunch of reasons, I've decided to pass on this. I don't know why, maybe just got cold feet or an empty feeling wallet. I really appreciate your input (yet again), and if anybody is in the North Colorado/Denver area, I'll throw up the craigslist link so this guy can get bombarded with calls. http://fortcollins.craigslist.org/car/566652584.html |
