Hello all!

I am terminally infected with the fixing what ain't broke virus so upon toying with my brand new and working HEI conversion per this forum suggestions, I began to ponder at idle with no road testing:

I have recurved my distributors ever since getting the scoop from Emsvitil. Now, I am thinking about recurving my Mopar electronic dizzy because it has a 6.5x vac can....

(1) Are these Mopar electronic dizzys recurvable by dissembling them t and brazing up governor slots and changing springs as with the standard dizzy? I ask because looking at the gap between the reluctor tits and the pickup on the electronic dizzy and then looking for a spec on that air gap I find no spec for reassembly. So upon looking longer at the dizzy I begin to wonder if the electronic dizzy is "set for all time" and about all you can do is change vac cans or use an allen wrench to turn the can adjuster.

(2) For jollies I reversed the wires to the distributor leads from the GM module. My dialback timing light said I went from a steady 10 degrees BTDC with a tiny surge at idle at 1,000 rpm to 58 degrees BTDC, loping slightly, and still 1,000 rpm. Shazam, 58 degrees and kept right on idling, vac can adusted 2 turns out but not plugged. Which is "right"? 10 or 58 degrees, or are both "right" as the dizzy sees things?

Thanks!

It's definitely not sitting there idling at 1000 rpm with 58° of advance; your T-light is getting a false signal with the wires hooked up backwards. You'll probably want to switch them back.

The electronic distributors' timing curves can be altered as you describe, same as the points-type distributors. Note the electronic distributors use eccentrically-mounted round posts rather than tabs to hold the fixed ends of the mechanical advance springs. Instead of grabbing and bending the tabs to apply more or less preload to the springs, you grab the round post and turn it. Because it is eccentrically mounted, it'll move closer or further depending how far you turn it, and in which direction.

BTW...1000 rpm...? Kind of a high idle, don'tchya think? Unless your camshaft is lumpier than I remember...
