I have a couple of mid 1970's Valiants I have owned for about 20 years. They were daily drivers and I parked them about 10 years ago (same time I got married and had a child) with plans to fix the rust. I hadn't really touched them and then the county got on me so I fixed the hydralics and got them re-registered two summers ago and again I havn't gotten around to fixing the rust.

I love reading slantsix.org and want to get back into slants again. So here is the my dilemma: Do I fix these rusty heaps (mostly rust repair and the effects of sitting) or buy a running and still driving heap? Oh and one other thing if I buy a car I have to get rid of (at least one) car because I have waaaay too many cars. That means if I buy another junk on ebay of whereever, I have to dismantle and store yet another pile of cars parts.

What would you do?

If you've had the heaps for awhile, you know the condition of the mechanicals............

If you buy something else, it's a crapshoot.......

I think it deoends on the extent and location of the rust damage. If it's confined to outer body panels and maybe floor pans then I would probably try to fix it. If it's into the structural components such as framerails and torsion bar mounts I'd have to think long and hard about it.

Do you like the cars? ARe they 4 dr or 2 dr? Do you like the body styles? What condition are the mechanicals in? Is the rust into the structural parts of the car? Check the rear spring hangers and shackle boxes, and check the front frame extension. Where have these cars been; Down South, East, North or West. That makes a huge difference. Can you combine 2 junkers into one good car?

Fix them! Why should you be smarter than the rest of us by buying a finished car that can be enjoyed right away for half the money you will stick into your existing cars?

Could you post some pics of the cars so we can give a better opinion?
