I have a 1965 Dodge A100 that has a minimal amount of electronic accessories in it. Just the basics lights ignition and heater. I'm wanting to add a nice stereo system to it and im not sure if the current charging system is sufficient. Right now it has a 60 amp alt in it with an Optima Red top battery. Im have an Alpine CD deck and 2 300 watt amps im wanting to put into it. Do you guys think im going to see some charging problems with this type of setup?

well i'm in the same boat as far as charging but i have the HEI upgrade and a set of fog and driving lights hidden behind the grill. To the point you actually care, about i've got an alpine headunit, a 1000watt monoblock amp, a 500watt 4 channel amp, and a large battery and while the car's running the headlights barely dim when the stereo hits really really hard for a few seconds. However, i've got a charging system that i know is working right. AKA new alt, voltage reg, and all the wiring between is new. At idle under full load I'm able to make 13.2volts. So 2 300watt amps isn't gonna be a problem unless ya got another problem ya don't know about.

i would make sure your wiring is in good shape and run a wire from the battery to your amp via a relay.

wiring is all brand new. the amps are going to be powered from fused 4 gauge wire ran directly from the [/url]battery to a distribution block. the negative will be 4 gauge from the chasis to a distribution block as well. ive thought about doing the "big 3 upgrade" on it as well. anyone have any luck with that, or thoughts on it?

thanks

That should work nicely. Big 3 never heard it called that but it looks sound at a glance. Good luck and take pictures and share.
