According to the local parts shop this is a top of the line Made in USA $59 electromechanical voltage regulator which will last far longer in my 63 Dart slant 6 than the $15 Taiwan VRs which failed in 11 months and 4 months. What say you? Has anyone used one?

I don't like the Taiwanese regulators, either.

NAPA Echlin VR32 is not "top of the line", it's just an ordinary, standard, normal, factory-type replacement regulator for that application. No reason to stick with an old electromechanical type regulator; if you're shopping the NAPA Echlin line, get VR-1001 (electronic regulator) instead — that is top of the line. Standard-Bluestreak equivalent is VR-128. If for whatever reason you want to stay with electromechanical, Echlin's top of the line is VR34 / VR35 (heavy duty, with/without voltage adjustment screw; Standard/BlueStreak equivalent is VR-106).

Dan,

That VR-1001 number is new to me. I have been using the VR-706 electronic regulators from Ampco and Wells. Is this a newer model?

Echlin VR-1001 /Standard-Bluestreak VR-128 is the encapsulated IC regulator, similar in design to MP P3690 732 but better quality and you needn't scrape the epoxy off the mounting bracket. I like it better than the unencapsulated offshore Wells unit. Not sure when any of these three were released; they've all been around for at least 15 years.

Doesn't sound like the one I use. It is an all-chrome unit.
