When I pulled the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer off my '71 truck engine it split in two. Will the same part from a 74 Valiant work as a replacement? If not, what would? Also, does anybody have the length, diameter and thread # for the valve cover bolts? I've misplaced my set somewhere in my garage and thinking of just going to the hardware store. Thanks as always, Joe |

The '71 and '74 vibration damper are directly interchangeable, yes. Don't have the valve cover bolt spec for you offhand, but the wrench size is 7/16". |

The damper split in two? Did the outer ring come off or is there actually broken metal? |

On my truck the pulley was held to the damper by rubber that was glued to both surfaces. So it just came apart. No broken metal. Thanks for the tip on the bolts, that sounds right to me. Joe |

That's how they are made. The outer ring is held to the hub by the vulcanized rubber. You should only pull the damper from the bolts in the center. If you use a gear puller you ruin the damper. |
