Post subject:  Having issues with stalling

Hey guys. I just put everything back together on the 225 and I started having compression issues after tightening down the valves. I re-adjusted them one cylinder at a time and restarted it and it sounded great for a car that I havent rebuilt yet. Now Im having an issue with it running for about 5 minutes and then it sounding like its flooding out and then dies. Im wondering if maybe it is and Im not sure if its the carb or the intake valve opening to fast. This is my first time with valves. So I guess you can say Im a virgin to it and the advice so far on here has worked, so Im asking for more advice.

Thanks
Josh

Did you adjust the valves with the engine running?

Here is the valve adjustment procedure if you don’t have it:

You have to adjust them hot and most everyone says you have to do it with the engine running.

If you did it without the engine running, you have to turn the engine to get each cylinder at TDC before adjusting. If you adjusted them all at one time, without turning the engine, you have a some that are way too tight and some way too loose. Some may hardly open and others may never close.

That would definitely be the biggest part of your problem.

Follow that link above and it’ll tell you step by step how to do it.

I have only adjusted once or twice with engine running, and I have probably adjusted Slant valves about 300-500 times, no joke. It is not necessary. IT IS necessary to do it with the engine hot (run for at least 10-15 min). It sounds like your valves are too tight.
