Hi I found your forum threw sweptline.org I have a 1964 d200 crewcab with a 225 slant six. the motor was recently rebuilt and is still way underpowered for this truck. I was going to pull it and put a CTD in it but have not been able o find a motor. before I go threw the expense of putting a big block in it I was wondering if It would be worth it to keep the 6 and just do a Turbo.
so a few questions.

What kind of power can I expect from a turbo 225 6?

how about reliability? the truck is a daily driver.

thanks.

The most common slant sixes are about 190-230hp na. I've seen a couple turbo slant sixed that can hold their own. The one I plan on building which is a challenge more than anything is going to be around $3000. A budget like that you multiply by 3 divide by 4 and than square. So if it were me and you need this truck to be consistant and work, the plan is either to accept the slant's lower power but better gas mileage, or get a crate 360 that will be way more powerful and not a huge dent in gas, I got 18-20mpg with my old three by my knee. So what would a 360 do with a 904? Or a A-8330d or automatic of equivalent, I know my roomate's Dakota did about 18.
If you want to pursue this than ask away and I'll share as much knowledge as I can including all the research I've already done. ie cam, turbo size, and internal mods. Otherwise take care and good luck! Wes

As much as it pains me to say it, if you are working the truck, towing and tossing heavy stuff in there, there is no substitute for cubic inches.

There are folks on here that would be very interested in your truck as is however. You might want to take that into consideration.

I'd love to have the right B-Body /6. I whimper everytime I find one that has been converted.

If you are expecting it to pull a 5000# trailer with a bed full of firewood over the pass at 80, you likely have the wrong engine. There are those that might argue the point, but not very convincingly.

Now if your just looking for a tad more snap, you can do that.

i have agree with Cee, if thats what your after. check out the matrix engine thread
http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23314

other things that would make it feel more peepy. would be different trans gears and/or changing out the rearend gear.

does you truck have the /6 with a 1bbl or 2bbl? there are articles on the main page that cover tubroing the /6. there is also one on allpar.com as wel... many options, just figure out your target HP you want to aim for..

right now the truck cant even get out of its own way I think the power to weight was decent for 64 but I cant even pull into traffic. If a turbo makes 150hp what dose my truck have? scary to think this thing came from the factory with this power. I guess its a v8 swap. now i have a good excuse to buy another mopar to put my 225 in. thanks for all your help

Good luck! if you do want to swap in the six to something else and build it call us up! Also, I meant that most sixes that are some what built range from 190-250hp, correct me if I'm wrong but all I got is about 200hp and some 260ftlb

stock slants goes grom 130-150 hp. Semi built from 150 up to 190. Seriously built (for either race or street) 190 up to about 250 N/A. A turbo engine will give you better driveability for the power. Say, you pushed everythjing and got a 300 HP N/A engine, well, chances are that any turbo'd engine making the same power will be much more fun to drive around (especially in a truck)
