I always new /6s could be powerful motors but to run a high 9 second 1/4 mile like the anglia on this web site just amazes me. I also found a yellow 66 valiant with a 225 thats pushin 564 hp to the rear wheels. Ive been into six's since i started driving. I rebuilt one for my 85 pickup when i was 16. I bored it .60 over and put a cam in it. I cant remember what size or were i ordered it from but i have a cam card somewhere that i need to find. It was supposed to be a high rpm cam or something. I want to do some head work but dont know were to bring it, I also think some of it i could do on my own with a little research. I dont want to mess anything up even though i havea few laying around to practice on. I heard you can mill them down .100 is this right and is it the way to go?
I notice these fast /6s have turbo's and multi port injection. What are some of the other things that are done to these motors to make that much ponies. would making my own turbo system and FI be the thing to do to get the most out of a street 6?

Trust me when I say just keep reading and searching this site. There are a million different ways that slanters can build power.
Go to the EFI section and start reading about injection conversions. Some have swaped GM EFI systems, others use TBI on a 2 bbl intake, but I think the most common idea now is to use MegaSquirt DIY fuel injection www.http://www.megasquirt.info/MS%20FAQ.htm
NOS is another option that when properly tuned makes great power.

Welcome to our home! :D

If your going to go forced induction, you may not want to mill the head that far. If you've already got a high overlap cam, it isn't going to work optimally with forced induction anyway.

First you need to find out where you are starting from. Pull the head and cc the chambers. Find out how far down the hole your piston is, and work up the compression ratio based on the particulars for your engine.

The most bang for the buck in a normally aspirated engine build is going to involve cutting the head to some degree. Since these engines aren't large displacement, you will need to balance all things together to get the most out of a build. It's not as forgiving as starting with a 400+ inch monster that will produce lots of noise and torque even when it's not built to the right combination.

Building a Turbo and/or FI motor is a very complicated process that will take at minumum lots of time, and more than likely lots of money.

Guys making more than 300 hp out of these engines have a lot of time and dollars bound up in them. The 500+ HP jobs are beyond the realm of the average home machinist. I'm going to be pushing $3K for a little under 250HP. Keep that in sight before diving off the high board.

Visit the Articles section of this site, and you'll find lots of information about various builds and power adders. Running a search on a particular method will also access more information. Have fun!
