Ever since when I put that weber carb awhile ago I had dying and bucking at part throttle (just cracked open) and *poor* MPG but no black smoke (eh?). Caravan with carb 2.2 auto. Well, grabbed another batch of spark plugs and swapped out the fouled plugs. Weber got one size smaller primary main fuel jet and one size larger air corrector jet, idle jet one size larger (too lean when cracking open throttle before progression slot come into play - big time bucking or stalling). Now I have very nice idle with everything on, no occasional burps or hiccups and it wants to run very strongly. Very nice weber indeed. But it is bit of a beast for idle when not hot enough (cold before choke opens and hot are good). Next step is tune the secondary, is going too fat, mushy power at WOT. Right now it's miserably cold, dig into it when nicer weather comes around. I'm at end of jets for the fuel (137 currently), had to upsize the air corrector one larger. Probably go one step more on that air corrector if MPG still have room to improve for goal of 19MPG city. Cheers, Wizard |

Thats one of the wonderfull things about a Weber carb. They are very tunable and can be tuned to work with most any setup if you put the time into them. ALthough it does take time and testing. Good work and keep tuning, you will get there. Jess |

Yea, Im real happy with mine. I think I still may need some tweeking, but Im not going to worry about it now. Im looking at a rebuild when I get off my lazy butt and have been stockpiling parts for it and Im sure it will need re-tweeking when thats done. Rock on!

And explained awful lot. Idles RICH, weak at crack of throttle (lean) then transtitions quickly towards rich as I open throttle slightly more and stays there for cruise. If I open bit more, leans out to yellow (Stoich) near rich side. This where I notice NICE power and that is squarely in the cruise area explains the POOR MPG. Open throttle more wider, engine just revs and less power so accelerates slower and delays the kickdown too. Goes toward lean and leaner as you open further. At full Throttle, gauge goes wild (all LEDs flickering). Gee still have lot to tune that weber carb! SIGH. 1 wire narrowband sensor, autometer brand 20 LED in a circle. I know there are limitations. I don't have have money for megasquirt... SIGH, that would get this sorted out in a jiffy. Cheers, Wizard |
