I have no clue when it comes to a/c. I have a stock setup on my 75 Duster. It doesnt work right now. Can I recharge it and see what happens, or do I need to do something before that. And is there a way you can tell if its been converted or not?

Please be careful, because air conditioning work is very dangerous if you don't know exactly what you're doing and how to do it right. It is really easy to injure yourself seriously and quickly. Diagnosing A/C leaks requires special equipment, as does determining what refrigerant the system has been charged with. Officially, all refrigerant conversions are supposed to have labels and conversion fittings so that only the clearly-identified refrigerant can be installed. Unfortunately, there are many sellers of unapproved and/or improper and/or unsafe refrigerants, and much bad advice regarding A/C service work all over the internet and even in the aisles of your local parts store. The $20 "R134a conversion kits" you can buy at the parts store are known to the A/C service industry as "compressor death kits", because they often kill the compressor in short order. Also be advised that if you add refrigerant to a system, and it turns out not to be the right kind of refrigerant, you will face a very costly and difficult time getting any qualified A/C service shop to touch your system, which will be regarded as "contaminated".

It really is best to leave A/C service work to a qualified tech. It will cost you less money and give a better result in the long run.
