I have a SL 6/ 64 barracuda that is being redone in a semi stock fashion with some nice paint (candy red with two thick white racing strips down the center and a custom interior (seats, door panels). I have bought a single 67 super bee hood scoop and think it would look good right in the center of the hood or offset to the drivers side. It would be functional as a cold air intake. However, my father in-law found out about it and is calling it a sin  to punch a hole in the hood of any older car. To the tune of four emails and trying to convince my wife of the same. I think the hood is kinda flat and needs something. He says the value will drop greatly and everybody wants unaltered cars these days. What do you guys think? Should I scoop or not?

Are you fixing it up to sell for a profit? Are you building a car that you you will have and enjoy for a long time?

Just some things to think about.

Too bad you can't get a fiberglass hood for that and scoop it. The old guy really seems to care. :?:

In my opinion....
I wouldn't put that little scoop on the hood. They used two of those things because they were puny. (I sure wouldn't offset it for sure!!) That probably would cut the value,,,,,,
If I had a B-Cuda, and wanted a scoop, I would purchase an era-correct Hemi scoop. Yeah it's a big "barn-door" scoop, but it would make a much more effective cold air intake, plus it would look much better......
Again, just my .02....

The car is going to be for enjoyment and I do not plan on selling it for a long time. It is going to be my wifes car when it is done. The scoop is really more for looks than for function.

If it's going to be your wife's car then I would defer to her wishes for sure. The old man ( and I say that with great affection, being one myself ) has his heart in the right place, but his nose in the wrong place.

There's my $.02 worth. Add another $.98 and you can get a cup of coffee, somewhere, maybe.

Well if it is going to be the wifes car, probably ought to let her decide.

To me, this is simple. Regardless of what anybody tells you you shouldd or shouldn't do with your car, I try never to burn bridges. Find another hood, try a scoop on that, and preserve the old hood. Not because of future value or what somebody says, but just in case you ever change your mind, and want to go back to original.

Ask me how I know...

According to the Slant Six Racing Manual, you need at least 30 cubic inches of an opening for a scoop to be useful. So before I did anything, I would make sure it's going to function like you want.
