What is the best way to turn the crank if you can't bump it with the starter. It looks like I can get a big bolt in the pulley. Does anybody know what size bolt to use (if this is the best method)? The engine is a 68 |

I don't recall exactly what size it is, but I know it is the same as an LA engine if that helps at all. I also know the LA bolt has a 1-1/4" head so you need that size socket. TopHat |

Honestly, our low compression little mills should turn pretty freely by hand. just grasp the balancer and the belt and inch it along. If you take the plugs out it's even easier. |

Thanks! BTW, the pistions are 0.60 over bore and high compression, and the belts are off. I tried to muscle it around but I'm old and weak. |

With the plugs out you have no compression, I would be a little concerned if you can't move it at all. Try the bolt in the end of the crank method or maybe a strong neighbor that likes beer.

My damper has tapped holes on the perimeter. I put 3 grade 8 bolts into those holes and then use a wrench on the bolt heads to turn the engine over |
