Does any company make a performance distributor for the slant six? Not a drag car but a daily driver with 4 bbl carb and headers. |

Supposedly Mallory (I think) made a performance distributor at one time, but for $600... you can just look up 'Distributor Recurve' and there are lots of nice details presented by Ed, me, and a few others... I've been contacted by people in the past to do 'street/strip' recurves, but time and test equipment are kind of limited... -D.Idiot |

While there aren't any fancy billet distributors, it's quite possible to adjust the curve on a stock unit. And you can wire a stock distributor to a HEI module or various aftermarket boxes for a stronger spark. I'm working on options for crank trigger / distributorless ignition setups for the slant as well. Got an early design of a crank trigger installed on my Dart but I'm working on one that's a bit easier to install and might attach to the rear of the damper. However, it's really more useful for turbo or EFI buildups. |

Mallory still makes one for $380 available from Summit. I've never used one and don't know anybody that has one though |

Yes indeedy. Right here: http://tinyurl.com/2vn4pzI was curious to try one a while back, but the price kept me from doing it. I suppose if someone's got money to blow on one to try instead of going HEI, it might be worth checking out. |

The stock distributor is quite a robust and reliable unit. You can get all the performance you're likely ever to need out of it, depending on how the advance curves are configured and what kind of ignition control the distributor is hooked to. What are your goals here — what do you mean when you say "performance distributor"? |

I wonder if the Mallory Advance Curve Change kit part no. 29014 has any MOPAR springs in it Like an assortment of long looped secondary springs? Reference the PDF file on the Summit link. |

Accel makes one also and its a lot cheaper, there was only one place I found that listed it but they showed a pic and part number. Like everybody else I dont see much need for one. You can mod the stock dizzy to handle about anything you need and if you need more a crank trigger setup with a EFI box can do that. About the only app I could see needing more than a stock dizzy would be a turbo or extreem power adder setups where one degree of timing could mean the diff between max power and blowing up. A EFI box ( Megasquirt would be affordable) and a crank trigger could help get the most out of fuel milage and part throttle power. Heck that could be done for close to the price of that Mallory dizzy listed above. But with a little bit of time and testing a stock reworked dizzy could get so close it wouldnt matter. Once you go to HEI or MSD the timing control gets much better with the stock electronic dizzy. ALthough a Megasquirt & crank trigger probably could pull a little bit extra out of a system in the drivability department, plus you would have the added ability of datalogging if some extra sensors where added like TPS and MAP, which it would need anyway to control the timing good I believe. But $400.00 is a big jump from a good reworked dizzy. JUst depend on what you want and what you can spend. Jess |

Any shop that can order Mr. Gasket... Ask for 928G (the 'GM' kit)... It comes with 3 sets of springs... if you have an automatic tranny and can land yourself a 1976+ distributor with the 9R or 11R governor (I haven't tryed this combo with a 15R governor yet... ) Swap the heavy looped spring for a silver spring out of the kit... ( that usually gets you 'all in' by 3100... which is slow enough to keep things from 'pinging' under load...aka heavy car/autotranny/2.76 rear end....)... Get dial back timing light, and check to make sure you 'set' it so you have 30 degrees at the 2800-3100 mark... and hopefully your vacc. can will get things at 'cruise' (15-17" on the vacc. gauge) up to 47-50 degrees... I run this combo on the BV and it's pretty peppy in the 'pursuit' range... and I have yet to get it to 'ping' on regular.... -D.idiot |
