I bought a new oem solid lifter cam from here a while back but I have no card. Specifically I'm looking for the tappet lift @ .050 but I wouldn't mind knowing all the pertinent specs. Also, in regards to degreeing, should I be looking at going straight up or advancing some. Here's my quick combo: stock tight bottom end; .100 off block (9.6:1) new guides, stock valves (3 angle job, 15* back cut) mildly ported; super six. I left room so I can easily add a bigger cam and dual exhaust but not for a while.

Thanks, Pat.

tappet lift @0.050 would be 0.050; valve lift at same point would be0.075.

Who knows what that cam is.
Is it a OEM / NOS factory cam or someone's regrind?

To try to identify the cam, measure the cam lift to see if it matches any of the factory cams. (valve lift)
Measure lobe, tip to heal, then subtract lobe width, (side to side) then multiply that number by 1.5 to get valve lift.

Here is a partial list of factory cams:

I recently got a cam with an engine kit, and was told it's a stock replacement. I asked for the specs, and this is the only thing they sent.

Intake lift=.270
Exhaust lift=.274

Intake duration=198
Exhaust duration=203

Overlap=45

Comments?

Thanks Doc, I actually got it from DAKIGHT and reading an old PM he sent, it appears to be 2.44 duration and maybe .400 lift. I'm amazed to see how many factory grinds there are.

What's your thought on degreeing this motor that I have described above?

Both the cams described above are typical "stock" cams you get from rebuilders. These usually have more overlap then the factory cams, because the grinder puts the profile on a narrower "lobe center".

All that aside, when installing any cam, always find true TDC as a first step.
Then figure-out how much overlap the cam has at "lash", then try to center the overlap event over TDC. (exhaust stroke) Add 2 to 4 degrees of advance to compensate for future chain slack and to help with low speed throttle response.

That cam is a stock replacement from Melling. I don't recall the part number but it should have stock specs.
