Can your rear springs affect the front alignment? - Say if they are saggy or have too much arch? Greg |

The rear ride height will affect caster a little, but that's about it. Of course really bad front eye bushings or broken spring bolts that allow the wheelbase to change onone side can cause interesting effects. "Hey look, it steers right when I'm on the gas and left when I left off." I had a '74 Duster that really did this. |

If one spring is broken or sags more than the other it can screw up a 4 wheel alignment. Like Josh said: a hooped front spring bushing can really screw thoings up as well. That launch left ....then head right is a leaf spring classic. It got so scarey in our mudbogger in a narrow pit that I changed to a control arm/coil spring suspension on both ends. |

Ok So I was just checking here, Thanks for the replies; I took my car to the shop to get aligned - I asked for -1.25 Camber and +3 to +4 Caster and they said the rear suspension was the problem not the alignment? I do have the front torsion bars cranked up a bit but the tires were wearing out quick on the outside edges and it was real finicky to steer, So after doing some research on the forum I took it to the shop with those specs. They did the job but said it was my rear springs and the type of tires I had on the car, that was causing the problems. Like I guess they wanted me to put the old fr78-14's back on there or something?? Oh well we'll see. Greg |

You can get the upper control arms that are made from tubing. These have extra room for gaining more caster & camber. They are also ajustable ( more so than the factory holding bolts) to gain even more ajustment if needed and the placment of spacer can gain even more beyound that. When using these newer tubulor arms you really have any amount of ajustment you need. They also use the better and bigger ball joint so they last real good and are stronger. The only problem is there cost ( around $300.00). Its not uncomon to find A-Body cars that will not reach good alingment. One problem to be aware off that is hard to know about is the K frame cracking where the lower control arm connects. You cant tell they are cracked until you remove the lower control arm to inspect. Strut rod & bushings will effect lower control arm possition also and can cause alot of caster problems and alingment moving around and not staying stable. Jess |
