Post subject: | Rocker Shaft Hold-down Bolts |
I'm using a later ('83) hydraulic head with mechanical valve train. I noticed that the rear bolt in the newer style head is tapered for oil flow, whereas the mechanical shaft bolt is the same as the rest, in diameter. My question is: Is this tapered bolt specific to this head and the oiling system of the hydraulic rocker shaft or should I use the old style hardware with the later head? Thanks, Pat. |

I recently had this experience with my '79 engine the rear rocker shaft bolt is slightly smaller than the previous years' rocker shaft bolts... so you will have to use the rockershaft and special bolt from the head you are using and swap the mech rockers onto it, I think....-D.Idiot |

The rear bolt changed somewhere around '77 as far as I can tell. I have had some non-hydro peanut plug heads that take that bolt too. ![]() |

This is a peanut head. Is the consensus to use the peanut head shaft and bolts with the mechanical rockers then?

New observation. Oiling holes in the mechanical shaft are off-set towards dist. side and hydraulic shaft oil holes run parallel to the bolt holes. Some serious advice is needed. |

I would use the shaft that matches the rockers, not the head. ![]() |
