Drool tubes are one of those things where the whole package is the deal.

Unless your tubes are pristine ...get new ones. I had to look through 4 or 5 sets of used ones to make one good set.

New seals

New plugs with the rings removed......if your are cheap just remove the rings on the plugs you have now and see how it goes.

Torque them to the correct spec....dont over tighten

Sealer makes a mess.......

It is of some entertainment value to walk in and ask for a set of 426 hemi tubes and seals

I have often thought about (but not tried yet) using 2 sets of seals and doubling them up on the tubes. Seems like it might work as the aluminum tubes seem to "stretch" after many years of use. Just an idea.

I put a piece of pipe up in the tube, lightly tap with a hammer, you are trying to get it back to flat as possible, then I flat file mateng surface, new rubbers with a very small amount of the Right Stuff,Permatex,,not a drop out of 18 cyl,,,,,3 cars mark

On early slants up until sometime in 74-75 time frame, the spark plugs went through the pushrod area of the head. The "drool tubes" are aluminum tubes that seal that area to keep oil off the plugs and inside the engine. They are also known as spark plug tubes. They are sealed by the spark plug at one end and an o-ring at the other. Later engines used a different head design with the smaller "peanut" spark plugs and didn't require the tubes.

Well said!

I will add: They are often abused and ignored. That causes leaks leading to being called "Drool tubes"

The kid at the machine shop nearly flipped when I showed him my V12 Hemi head off a new Viper (69 Drool tube salnt)in for a cut....

I just ordered a set from advance auto today, and I agree with using the
"right stuff" sealant as well although the right stuff sealant usually dries up really quick after one use even if you put a tight cap or screw in the nozzle end of the tube.
I wish they made the bottles much smaller so you don't have to waste the rest after one use.

That stuff works much better than the orange high temp stuff that I originally had on my seals.

I have some 5900 sealer I use on Mercedes from Mercedes.
It works great and is identical to the right stuff and costs about 4 times as much, but it dries up just as quick.
