I was browsing and found www.classiccarautoparts.com. They have a 18 gallon tank for a-bodies 68-70 without vent pipe and EEC, and a 16 gallon tank for 70-71 with four side vent pipes & EEC. Both are $188. I own a -70 Duster, -73 Valiant 4 door and -74 Dart 4 door. I'm planning on buying new tanks for them when I have enough money saved. I don't need any vent pipes assied from the one being on the filler neck. Can I use the 18 gallon tank for all 3 vehicles? Where can I buy a new filler neck and chromed filler cap (with lock)? Excuse me for being stupid, but what is EEC? |

I asked this question last year in hopes that I could increase the range of my Swinger a little. No one seems to know. You may have to just try it and see. If you do, please keep us posted on the results...

All the 1967-1976 tanks are the same dimension wise, the 1967 uses a belly band across the bottom, instead of the later 'suspender' style of tank straps... the 1973+ tanks have a vent nipple or two for vapor return, the 60's tanks may or may not have this depending on options... For the most part they can all hold 18 gallons (even the 1976 Feather Duster 14 gallon tank...)... the difference is in the vent divider in your fill tube, depending on the year, and how the tank vents, you can get anything from 14-18 gallons... (so far Beater Valiant with a 1974 Duster Tank and the 1967 fill spout can top up to 18 gallons... whereas that 1974 Duster would only top up to 16 when I drove it...) -D.Idiot |

Would anyone know if there are any quality-differences between the gas tanks that Classic Car Auto Parts sell which are manufactured by Spectra Premium Industries, or the Goodmark OEM Replacement Gas Tanks that Summit Racing sell? |

So I did a co-order from Summit with a friend so the freight cost and tax will be more suited for my wallet...orderd a fuel tank lock ring at the same time. |

So I got the fuel tank finally on thursday. Don't know why, but Summit couldn't get the Dorman fuel tank lock ring (part#579-005) although they have it on their list for sale. It's a shame that the Goodmark didn't have it when the Dorman's site states that their tanks include it...so why couldn't Summit in that case cough it up? And the total cost for the Goodmark tank: $217.69 + freight + tax = about $360 to have it on Finnish soil. Now I'm going to paint it and maybe put a rust protection "paste" on top of that. So my final cuestion is, where would I find a new fuel tank lock ring? |

I'm having a hard time confirming the interchangeability year range of this retainer ring. Multiple factory part numbers were used over the years, and Dorman haven't got any application list for their ring. You're right, as it seems; nobody stocks the Dorman ring for some reason. It's difficult (but not impossible) to imagine changes to this ring in the 1960-1989 year range. Have you got a Chrysler dealer locally? If so, have them order you a #4279 445 locking ring and 6031 475 gasket. If not, get them from www.chryslerpartsdirect.com . |

So I changed my mind a bit a painted the tank twice with a rust prohibitive gloss paint and I'm going to just wax and buff it before I put it in place. One thing odd is that it has a recess on the bottom side across, like it's the place for the older belly band. Well I don't think that will have any practical matter. Before I wax it, should I place any protective pads against scuffing/rubbing anywhere on top of the tank? And if, then what size/shape and where exactly? |

Can't put the tank in place for a week, have to go on an army refresher course (had to look that up in the dictionary)....s**t, have been once, 17 years ago and now when I'm just turning 40 they want to f**k with me once more, oh well that's life I suppose. |
