Hey, Since my stock-bottom-end-slant-six-project went mad I have a few questions. How big bore can be used without weakening the cylinder walls? This is a boost engine, and since this is my first slant I not sure if it´s a good idea to go .080" over just to increase volume.. Perhaps I´d rather stay .010" to keep the walls more solid? Next question: Are there any DO´s and DON´T when using block filler in these engines? Thanks, and sorry for my poor spelling. Rob |

Doc/Doctor Dodge has good info on using block filler. Using the search function should turn up what you're after. Slants do have heavy cylinder walls stock, but I'm with you on keeping the cylinder walls strong. +.030" or even +.060" really isn't a big deal though. Many drag racers go +.100" without trouble. Stock 2.2 pistons are +.045" if you can find some 198 rods. BTW, your writing is fine. Thanks for the effort! |

Bore as much as needed to get the cylinders round and straight or to get to a piston size that you have "in hand". Block filler must be used in a spotlessly clean water jacket so be sure to do an acid cleaning processon the engine block. On street engines, only use about 1 inch of filler to smooth-out the floor of the water jacket, you can use more filler on race only engines. Install the filler with the main caps torqued and before you do final block deck machining, boring & honing. Use good filler. (Race Engineering makes a good one) Hard Blok is junk. Follow the mixing ratios exactly, good fillers mix by weight so you will need an accurate scale. DD |
