Could a manually operated cable type choke be used to eliminate the electric and non electric type chokes on these /six motors?

Post subject:  Yes...

Some of the 60's truck used that kind of arrangement, if you can get a choke cable (or a lawn mower throttle cable), and 'engineer' the brackets to hold the cable under the dash, and to the carb, it should be ok... the real trick is making sure:

1) you don't unload the choke too soon during cold starts as it can die out
2) don't forget to unload the choke or it'll run rich and you'll lose some power and have the 'black smoke' following you around town...

The real way to get rid of the choke is EFI......

Over the years, I did a number of manual choke conversions. It used to be easy to find universal kits to do it. The only trick I'd recommend is to heavily grease the cable about 1/year, as they were prone to sticking. For some reason, my Holley aftermarket 2bbl designed for a manual choke requires much more travel than any of the carbs designed for automatic choke.

The new electric chokes I've had work well enough that I now use them rather than the manual.

my 73 valiant has a "custom" manual choke. works o.k. but it is a little stiff. and took some precision welding of bracketry to the carb. but the price was right.

Cool, does anyone have pics of their manual set up at the carb?

I've seen some nice looking hemi type manual choke cables on ebay that were all stainless inside and out.
