Hello,
i changed wheel studs during my disc brake conversion and needed to install longer 7/16-20 studs in their place.
The old ones hammered out with one quick whack with a lump hammer, and the new ones also installed with relative ease, however, the new studs seem not to bite into the hub as well as they probably should and my concern is that down the road ill get a flat tire and find out that i cannot (GASP) get the wheel off. The wheels are presently installed and torqued normally with no problem.
Could i tack the studs to the back of the hub with a mig welder? Are the hubs cast iron?, or will this work?

I wouldn t worry about it...but thats me.

You could also "stake" them with a punch so they wont rotate.

They generally get tighter with use and abuse.

They probably are cast iron but could be welded with stainless wire enough to tack them. You could throw the balance off welding them, though, and it’s a real pain to get tires balanced after that.

i welded/ground flush a casting notch on my hubs, it worked fine, just used my mig with .030 solid wire.
