Caroline and I went over to Earlville Iowa last weekend to hang out with Mike. Met him friday night for dinner, and Saturday I hung with him at the track. This was the first time I've seen the car since he got it lettered. Very nice for sure. :D

Mike ended up qualified #15 and ran an O/SA '65 Valiant in the first round. Unfortunately, Mike broke out by a ton, (14:47 0n a 14:60) lost the race, and ended up running 1.03 under his index so he will probably get reviewed for horsepower again. :(

Here's a shot of mike on his last qualifying run. In the other lane is a rather unusual car as well. 1967 Fairlane wagon in H/S. 390 4 speed combo.

Don't you just love class racing? You get penalized for doing good. :?

Sounds like a fun time. Mike is just too fast...

If you take away the 3 tenths index hit they all got over the winter that run was 1.33 under. I think that's the fastest the car has ever been.

DA was up in the afternoon out there, but a stronger tailwind was blowing than in the morning. Apparently the car likes a tail wind.

Charlie, you know how it is in class racing, hero to zero in the stroke of a pen.

That's exactly why I quit class racing. One year my Z/sa is a killer car. Next year, no 6 cyl cars allowed in that class, have to run W/sa, two classes higher. They didn't even have the courtesy to give me horse power. :P

Just think, I thought about buying Mike's car a year before he got it. I even discussed it with Mike and we went over what was in the car and how it supposedly ran at the time. We decided the thing would be lucky to ever run index, let alone a second under.

Actually, he bought it about a year later from the guy who bought it when I didn't. He gave about $1K less than what I could have bought it for.

Even smarter, yet. That gave him $1,000 more to put into makeing the car quicker, so NHRA can penalize him more.
