Post subject:  GM HEI with stock gm coil

I've found tons of great info on this topic but I'm still a little confused

this is what I have and I'm trying to understand how all of the wires get hooked up.

using this as a reference:

I'm going to connect it like this:

Pink/blk stripe together
White/blk stripe together
solid pink to +12v from ignition
solid white to pickup coil on the dizzy?????
Black/wht stripe to ground??????

Does this sound right and if so where does the second wire from the dizzy go?

The image is so small, I can hardly make it out. If it is what I think, it may not work. What is the GM year model/engine for the parts you have. It looks to me like the module is triggered by the computer. I am going thru this same thing right now, myself. The parts I have are from a 1997 Chevy pick up, with a 5.7. I called BWD tech line, today to ask what type of signal is fed from the computer to the module, and he didn't know. I am running an earlier module and coil on one of my cars and it works great. But that module is triggered directly by the pickup in the distributer.

I will know more in a day, or so.

the pic is bigger on the cardomain page, but oh well. I'm going to hook it up and try it... what's the worst that can happen... burnt gm stuff.. I've got to get back to the yard to see if they still have the car I pulled it from...

Go back to the HEI upgrade instructions, which contain wiring info for this unitized GM module/coil assembly.

So that means that only the white wire from the module will connect to the pickup at the distributor?

and here is the full size image

You will not be able to trigger that module, directly from a mopar distributor. The white wire ("B" on the module) recieves its signal, from the vehicle control module. As near as I can tell (from wave forms on the IATN website) this signal is a square wave, between 0 volts and plus 5 volts. It will trigger the module on the part of the wave going from 5 to 0. The pick coil in the Mopar distributor, will not have a high enough output voltage. I cannot find a wave form for the Mopar dist output, right now, but believe it is not a square wave.
