Post subject:  63 Valiant wheels

Im looking to get new wheels for my 63 plymouth valiant.
Now it has the stock 13inch (painted bodycolor with center caps)
from what i understand (if im correct)they are a 4.5 "small bolt patten"

Is there any aftermarket wheels I can get that will fit this all drum setup?
Can I put a 14 rim to get better driving?
Thanks

The Small Bolt Pattern (SBP) wheels are 5 x 4" (which you have). The LBP are 5 x 4.5"

For 14" wheels in SBP, you can get stock steelies in 14 x 4.5" and 14 x 5.5" with the 5.5" preferred. The ralley style wheels are also available in SBP with aftermarket reproduction at 14 x 6" (not sure if stock ralleys were 5.5 or 6).

As for tire size, I use a 195/70 14 on 14 x 5.5 steelies. Another option would be 205/70 14's. Either one works, you can base your purchase on how much you want to spend, and if how far your speedometer is off (vary the diameter of new tire to correct problems)

The stock replacement for th old 6.50 13 bias tire is a 185/80 13, which diameter wise is equivalent to a 195/70 14.

If you get 14 x 4.5" rims you're stuck with 185/75 14s..... (also the same diameter as the 195/70 14 and 185/80 13)

American racing offers 2 styles of wheels for the small bolt pattern, Outlaw II's (65.00 each at discount tire) and Ansens (135.00 ea). Do a yahoo search to look at pics.

Thanks for the replies!

OK i think im going to go with the Outlaw II's.
Just to make certain on a 63 valiant with all drums with stock 13"
What 14" Outlaw II will fit in that wheel well?
Looks like theres no 14x5, will a 14x6 or 14x7 fit, and what size tire?
I would like even a small 14 to hopefully get better handeling than the stock 13.

also those rims have different bolt patters im looking for 5-4 correct?
Not 5-4 1/2 or 5-4 3/4?

Thanks This is really helpful

yes , 5 x 4" pattern. I believe that the 14's outlaws are 14 x 6, not sure if available in different withs or in 15" variety...

If you are going to buy a set of aftermarket wheels, go for the 15 inch.
as the years go by, there is less & less selection in the 14 inch tire/rim size.

I dont think 15 will fit, there's barley room in the wheel wells for the 13" stock tires now, I would be afaid of loosing room while turning.

15" wheels will fit, but the tire sidewall will be shorter to achieve the same overall diameter. A 195/60R15 is only 24.2" in diameter, 205/60R15 is 24.7". 185/80R13 (closest to stock) is 24.6".

Yes, 15 inch rims work great if you get the proper back spacing and tire size.
One advantage to the shorter tire sidewall is less tire sidewall flexing and better handling.
Here is what my 66 "Dacuda" looks like with some special 15 x 7 inch wheels and 225 - 50 x 15 tires.
