The alternator bracket was a bit cock-eyed sitting on it's mounting pads after serious decking of the block.
Fopar stopped by and recommended slotting the bolt hole that goes to the head.

I clamped it down on my mill and cut the slot to allow the bracket to sit flush on the block and the head. It's all those little things.

I just finished grinding down the pads on the manifold side of the block to clearance for the Dual Dutra Duals.
When I put the DDD's up to the head, they interfered with the pads. A similar issue with headers as Fopar tells me.

I've got a long way to go! My hands are still tingling from all the grinding, and my nose is full of Iron dust!

That happened when I mocked up the split manifold version, it's the late block with that pad under the block deck that does it...

You might have not had to do that if you used a later model sheet metal bracket off a 1979+ F/M/J body or a 1979-1987 Truck... (they only bolt to the block, not the head....)

Thanks for the very good fix for this DI!

The '79+ bracket also spaces the alternator's bottom ears further away from the block, which facilitates the use of an '89+ Nippondenso, Bosch, or Chrysler 40/90 or 50/120 alternator, which is not only more efficient and powerful, but also considerably smaller and lighter if you choose the Nippondenso version.

Then there's the AREngineering solution.

FYI - several months, maybe a year ago I asked AndyF about the AREngineering kit and it had been discontinued.

I also notice on the early 60's trucks/vans(industrial/farming engines) they have the driver's side alternator mounting brackets, that also may be a quickie junkyard item, but you can't have power steering to use it effectively...

Definitely on the A100/A108 vans with slant-6 engines. I think most (all?) of the D/W pickups had the distributor-side alternator setup like '61+ passenger cars. Not sure where the alternator is in a B-series van with slant-6, but I think it's on the distributor side.

There were a lot of special parts used to have P/S in a '60 Valiant. The alternator's "bottom" bracket was cast integrally with the special thermostat housing, a slider bracket came up from the P/S pump support, etc. I wonder what was done on A-vans with slant-6 and P/S. For that matter, I wonder if P/S was available on A-vans.

On my dart i kept the Cast iron alternator mount and I have both the block and head with .100" off of them. so I just shimmed it up with washers!

On a quasi related topic, SSDan, I have a small alternaor that I grabbed off a 90's Dodge truck - how do I ID it as to which one it is?? (Nippondenso, Bosch, or Chrysler 40/90 or 50/120) and how do I wire it to my volare -- I have the Sheet metal Bracket there!
I plan to install it to run the EFI I will be puttin on there this summer!

Thanks A link will work if you dont want to hijack this thread.

Greg
