Post subject:  FBO vs HEI ignition which one

I am upgrading the ignition this year just wondering if the is any feedback comparison between the FBO style mopar ignition or the Gm HEI . I am leaning on the HEI but wondered if there is a good diagram of the wiring . I want a diagram schematic rather than a step by step description

If you buy a good HEI module like a real GM or Standard Motor Products premium line and pair it with an HEI coil then I would choose HEI over FBO. The wiring is stupid simple and I know it's been covered here before.

This picture is an LT1 coil and bracket with a 4-pin HEI module mounted in place of the LT1 module. The two wires on the left go to the distributor magnetic pickup, the two on the right go to the coil. The pink one to the coil is B+ and is common to the other pink wire on the coil. The white wire is coil negative. The module is grounded to the bracket and the bracket must be grounded to the chassis or engine. The green wire on the left is my test ground.

IF I run the HEI I was planning on running either a napa Hei or Jegs HEI or even the Accel HEI, with an Accel super coil for the coil

The genuine GM HEI modules are some of the best so I went to a wrecking yard for mine. I bought the once pictured for $10 and the coil with bracket for $2. That was the best spark the camera captured, but the sparks look better in person. This is a very good ignition at bargain basement prices.

An Accel super coil will work, but it's not optimum. HEI modules control the coil primary current unlike the stock Mopar ignition which relies on the coil primary resistance (impedance actually) and ballast resistor to passively control the current. I have a big yellow Accel super coil myself, but the HEI coil is about 1/3rd the size, weighs less and is meant for use with the HEI module.
