One of the brake adjuster cables in the rear drums of my early '70's Dart is loose. It keeps working itself off the little guide where the shoe attaches. I've checked to see if it's mounted correctly and it is. It looks fairly new with no wear. It's the one with the little spring hook on one end. Can these things stretch?
Thanks!

Yes, the self adjust cable can stretch and I have seen new ones that were not made to the correct length.

Double-check to be sure the cable ramp is seated into the matching hole in the brake shoe, I have seen some miss the hole which results in a loose cable fit.

I have had to adjust self adjust cable tension on a number of applications and do this by modifing the ramp or spot welding some extra metal into the cable's eyelet.

Well, to my surprise....the guide sure looked like it was seated okay, but when I tapped on it with a drift, it did go in a tiny bit further, and the cable tightened up! You wouldn't think that such a small offset would loosen the cable so much, but it did.
Thanks!
