Hello, Im currently looking to purchase some new rims for my 72 Duster and just wanted to make sure these wheels will fit fine on my Duster. Im looking at getting some American Racing Torq Thrust D's 15X7's up front and 15X8.5's on the rears? The fronts should fit fine.. but the rears Im just wondering it they will rub any. Thanks!

Need to know the offset or backspacing and the size tire you intend to run.

That car should have back spacing of 4.25" with 7" wheels. The wheels on my car are backspaced at 3.75" and it will work, but it tracks better with the wheels that it was designed for. I don't think you have to worry about hitting on the inside with your rears, but I would be suprised if you will get them inside the wheel wells, even though your wells are much more open than the Dart. Give it a try if you can do it without actually buying them first.

A 15x7" wheel really needs 4.25" backspacing and the 15x8.5" should have 4.75" backspacing. 15x7" wheels with 3.75" backspacing and 215/60R15 tires rubbed the fender lip in the back of my '71 Swinger. 235/60R15 tires on 15x7s with 4.25" backspacing cleared fine. Your Duster is wider in the back so there is more room to the outside, but the 3.75" backspace wheels still sacrifice tire clearance and maximum tire size.

ok.. I might just buy 15X7's all the way around. The Duster has a large wheel well in the rear and I want to fill it as much as possible. They look goofy with the skinnies on the rear.

You'll be significantly limiting the size tire you can run by using that offset. There is no substitute for having the correct offset. None.

Josh, I may be getting myself in trouble here without realizing it. That is, creating one problem when "fixing" another. I am running these 15x7's with 205-60 15 radials, and the 3.75" back spacing, and have never had a problem with interference. HOwever, I have a six leaf spring set in the back, which sets up high. I purchased Andy-F's mounting boxes for the front of the rear leafs in order to lower the car 2"s in the back. Do you think this is going to make it rub somewhere it has not before? I am pretty sure that when I restored the car, I bent that pinch weld at the wheel well opening upward to create a little more room there.

Where exactly did your swinger's rear tires rub with the 205 60's? and the 3.75 back spacing?

All the Mustang wheels have enormously deep back spacing. I have tried them, and they run right into the springs. You can use them with spacers, which is what Lou has done. The Dokata truck wheels are all 3.75 in the 7" wheels, which is not exactly right either. Does anybody want to throw out a good alternative to stock wheels that actually make a good combo on an A body car. The best handling I experienced on this car was with a stock set of 15x7 cop car wheels. I just didn;t care for the look. Since I look at it more than drive it now, the look kind of trumped the performance.

I have a friend trying to replace a set of nice wheels on his Jeep Wrangler. They are really very nice looking 5 spoke wheels that look kind of like the old turbine wheels but with just five heavy spokes instead of a dozen or so. What do you know about the back spacing on the Jeep wheels?

I may be mistaken, but I believe a couple people mave mentioned being able to use the Mustang wheels without spacers. I think possibly Menko Johnson mentioned that. The center register diameter may be an issue though. I have a set of 2001 Bullitt wheels with tires sitting in my carport here in Germany to go on my '72 Dart that is in Georgia...

If I ever get around to shipping these wheels to Georgia I will have a set of 15X7 or possibly 8 black spoke wheels with low profile tires for sale.

There is likely more than one offset for Mustangs. The ones I tried from a 96 coupe GT hit the springs before they even got to the hub flange.
