Truth to tell, I don't really like any of these "points eliminator" type setups. The Pertronix is known to work — who the heck knows what kind of junk Accel's selling these days since they adopted a "global pricing competitiveness" requirement for their suppliers, which means a headlong rush to buy cheap junk from China. But the advantage of doing an actual electronic-ignition conversion, either the regular Mopar setup or the see HEI upgrade, is that the parts are utterly standard and readily available anywhere, any time. Try finding repair parts for your Pertronix or Accel if it breaks...you can get 'em, but they're going to be special-order items, rather than the "five minutes in and out of the parts store" (or wrecking yard) variety. |

I have several Pertronix units installed, and I really like them. Failure rate, according to a friend who has a parts store, is next to nil. He has never had one fail. He used to work for the Harrah's Auto Collection and knows more about cars than anyone I know, and he has been a very reliable source of info. My 2 cents. |

Admittedly this is only an indirect reference but (Rose Parade) Tournament's requiring us to replace the points set-ups on our float with electronics this year and Pertronix is their recommendation, for its low failure rate. Hope they're right ............. I'll be keeping back-ups for both engines in the on-board kit anyway. |

Pertronix seems to work pretty well, although as Dan noted they do have non-standard parts. I trust Pertronix's quality over Accel's these days. |

Funny here where it rains, Ive seen several fail in flathead Fords.Thats why I still use points in mine. Have not had a pair fail in 40 odd years. For my slanter, Im going for mileage, so I'll be doing the MOPAR parts coversion. Dont trust after market |

I've been running the same Pertronix II system for about four years on two different engines; first a 63 and then on an 83, with absolutely no problems. Hope I didn't jinx it now. The system on the 83 is triggering a MSD ignition system and doing fine. Regards. RMDV. |
