I'm finally getting around to assembling the rear for my Dart. Is there supposed to be some lubricant applied to the outside of the bearing race before the axle goes in? Is it anti-seize or rtv? I thought I had read somewhere to use rtv so the outer race does not turn. It's a 7 1/4 suregrip.

The 7 1/4 bearing is sealed and retained by the outer flange so it needs no lubrication or chemical retention. However, if you want another barrier against gear oil seepage you can put a little RTV around the outside of the bearing.

Thanks Joshie, maybe that's what I was thinking of. I'll just use a thin film of RTV.
